Porsche is giving us a strong hint at the future of the Panamera series with its new Sport Turismo Concept that was unveiled during a press event on the eve of the 2012 Paris Motor Show.

With the Panamera Sport Turismo concept, Porsche's intention is to kill three birds with one stone, in the sense that it is previewing both a new design language for the next Panamera saloon and a plug-in gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain, while also testing the waters for an expansion of the series with a more practical and roomy, estate-like model.

"The body concept of the Panamera Sport Turismo is an outlook on a possible Porsche sports car of tomorrow," said the company in a press statement.
The Sport Turismo is 1,990 mm wide, 1,401 mm tall and 4,950 mm long, which makes it 61mm wider, 17mm lower and 20mm shorter than the current Panamera.

At least in concept form, the Sport Turismo has a slightly more aggressive and simultaneously sleeker appearance than today's Panamera, but this could all change once it enters the realm of production.
Inside, Porsche's designers went all futuristic with the styling, color options and tech gadgets with the Sport Turismo offering individual seating for four passengers.

For its motivation, the study uses an experimental plug-in hybrid powertrain developed from the parallel full hybrid system implemented today in the Panamera S Hybrid and Cayenne S Hybrid models.

The drive system links Porsche's production 3.0-liter V6 engine with 329hp (245kW / 333PS) to a new electric motor that generates about 94hp (70 kW / 95PS), or twice as much as in today’s Porsche hybrid drive. The system's total output is 410hp (306kW / 416PS).

The car's lithium-ion battery is located within the boot floor and can be externally charged within 2.5 hours (depending on the power supply). Porsche says that the Panamera Sport Turismo can be driven in pure electric mode up to a speed of 130 km/h (81mph) and can cover distances of over 30 km (19 miles).

With the use of the battery, the concept's combined fuel consumption is less than 3.5 liters per 100 km (67.2mpg US or 80.7mpg UK), while CO2 emissions are under 82 g/km.

Since this promotion is supposed to present the Carlsson's Super-GT C25 tuning package for the SL65 AMG, let's start this story from the "four shoes," shall we?

Carlsson Super-GT C25 offers a Gran Turismo style with more power, cool performance figures and aggressive body kit to the already-powerful series. Markus Schuster from Carlsson stated,

"There are more than enough super sports car in this world which can only be safely driven on a race track. Therefore, we deliberately wanted to develop a car which is highly exclusive on the one hand and can be used for the daily journey to office on the other hand. Therefore, a Super-GT which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.7 seconds and still offers a very pleasant driving comfort. All security-relevant regulations such as pedestrian protection, crash behaviour, ESP, ABS, Airbag systems are identical to large series editions with most modern standards."

Thanks to a stainless-steel exhaust system, sports air filter and a remapped ECU fitted to the car's six-liter V12 Biturbo, the Carlsson Super-GT C25 Mercedes SL65 AMG now provides a total output of 753 horsepower and an electronically limited 1,150 Nm (848 lb-ft) of torque. The company said, its C25 be able to bring a maximum torque of 1,320 Nm (975 lb-ft). For the result, this Super-GT offers 3.7 seconds of sprint time for 0 to 100 km/h range, and a top speed of 352 km/h.

2014 Corvette C7 Prototypes Pictured and Filmed in New Mexico [Video]

One of the most sought after prototype vehicles of the year has been photographed and filmed, not by professional spy shooters, but by a reader and a YouTube user respectively, both in the same place in Red River, a resort town in Taos County, New Mexico, over the weekend.
The photos come to us courtesy of a Jalopnik reader who spotted a large fleet of General Motors' sports cars consisting of five Camaro ZL1s, all current versions of the Corvette C6 including the base model, the Z06 and the flagship ZR1, plus eight covered models that are believed to be prototypes of the next Corvette C7.
In addition to the images, we also discovered a short video on YouTube from a one Phil McGroin, who also says that he filmed the Corvette C7 test car in Red River.
The new C7 ought to debut early next year, possibly at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January, with sales to begin in the States in the fall of the same year with a base price starting from around $50,000 (€38,000).

Thanks to Jalopnik for the pictures!

Japanese Automakers Urge Government to Implement Measures to Counter Strong Yen

Last Thursday, the yen hit a seven-month high against the U.S. dollar. That wouldn’t be so bad if the country’s currency hadn’t strengthened so much, from under 120 yen per dollar five years ago to less than 78 at the end of last week.As a result, exports have become more expensive, thus limiting profits. Japanese automakers have felt the strain for quite some time now. Add last year’s tsunami that seriously disrupted production and the high labor cost and corporate taxes and it is not difficult to see why the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) decided to act.
According to Reuters, JAMA has asked both the Japanese government and the Bank of Japan, the country’s central bank, to implement measures that will counter the strong yen as soon as possible.
“The current foreign exchange level, which is far from the actual ability of the Japanese economy, goes much beyond the limits of what companies can do through efforts to cut costs”, said Akio Toyoda, Toyota’s president who also heads JAMA.
Toyota spokesperson Joichi Tachikawa said the company may raise its vehicles’ prices. “As part of making the business profitable again, our options include price hikes for cars we export from Japan”, he said, though he didn’t elaborate on the details of the possible price increases.
Japan’s biggest car manufacturer has recovered from last year’s crisis and was the world’s best-selling automaker in the first half of 2012. It remains committed to building at least 3 million vehicles annually in Japan, yet at the same time, it is also shifting production of the North American-market Yaris to its Valenciennes plant in France and the Lexus RX SUV to Canada.
Other Japanese car companies are adopting the same practice as a means to reduce their costs. Nissan, for example, will build the Rogue compact crossover, and probably the Murano SUV, at its Tennessee plant in the U.S. from the 2014 model year and Honda announced last year that it would reduce production at its Japanese plants by 50 percent over the next decade.

New Kia Rio has its own unique interpretation of the Kia corporate grille which is integrated beautifully with the front lamps to create a new twist on the Kia family look. In this latest form, the Kia logo now sits above the grille. Below the grille, the treatment of front bumper and spoiler again shows signs of the Kia design DNA, with its distinctive on-road presence.

In profile, the ratio of body to glass, combined with the car’s strong wedge form, give Kia Rio a dynamic, sporty stance. So Rio has now been given a completely fresh personality which perfectly complements its siblings Picanto and Venga.
