Voted Best Car For Women - Range Rover Evoque
The Economist wrote a story in Jan 2009 suggesting that women make the final decision in as much as 85% of all company cars. It's interesting that only until recently have there been car awards voted by women. The criteria for judging by a panel of 17 worldwide women motoring writers included:
- Safety
- Value-for-money
- Aesthetic appearance
- Storage space
- Child–friendliness
- Ease-of-driving
- Colour
- Sex appeal
- Environmental footprint

Interview: Victoria Beckham Designs Special Edition Range Rover Evoque
Our friend Brett Burk from Vanity Fair recently sat down with Victoria Beckham to talk cars, design, life with David, her very first car and more. Since 2010, Victoria has been a creative design executive for Land Rover. Just recently, her Special Edition Range Rover Evoque with Victoria Beckham was finally unveiled. Each car will come with a matte-gray finish with glossy black accents and baseball-stitched leather interior.
This is definitely one Evoque we could get used to! The car even comes with a four-piece black-leather luggage set. Victoria definitely has style.
Here’s a glimpse at the Q&A between Brett and Victoria:
Brett Berk: Why is the Range Rover Evoque the right choice for a Victoria Beckham special edition?
Victoria Beckham: I’ve driven a Range Rover for as long as I can remember, and I have a lot of respect for Range Rover as a brand and for their heritage. So I think it feels very natural. I think that people will look at the car, and they’ll obviously see Range Rover, but they’ll also see me. It looks like me. I joked the other day—I had a matte-black crocodile structured handbag with me, and I looked at the bag and I looked at the car, and I said, “The car looks like a bag on wheels.” It’s very me. It’s very, very me.
Tell me about the rose-gold accents on the car. What inspired you to use that material?
I love rose gold. Where it initially came from was that my husband bought me a rose-gold men’s Rolex for my birthday, and at the same time, I’d used rose gold with some of my accessories for a collection, and I just thought, Hey, let’s just put a little rose-gold element behind the car. And I was adamant—I didn’t want this car to be seen as super-girly. I wanted it to be a car that I want to drive, and I wanted it to be a car that David wants to drive as well. Everything that I do has quite a masculine feel about it. Though the clothes I design are very feminine, they also have a very strong masculine feel about them. I’m feminine, but I wouldn’t say that I’m girly in any way at all.
One of the ways that we can chart the various stages in a person’s life is through their cars. So tell me about your cars. What was your first car?
My first-ever car, my parents bought me a red Fiat Uno. I was 17 and just so happy to have a car, so I was very fortunate that my parents were in a position to get me one—it was a secondhand car, but I was just so happy to have it. And my mum, to make it extra special for me, sprayed the hubcaps red.
Matching accessories.
Absolutely. And definitely an . . . acquired taste.

Land Rover Defender goes under the “Vilner” knife
Here is the latest evidence that proves that the guys from studio “Vilner” are able to transform everything wheeled into something luxurious and even the rugged Land Rover Defender is no exception with its new facelift. The specialised Bulgarian tuning company has transformed this Land Rover into something special.
The interior of the vehicle has been covered in dark brown and black Nappa and Alcantara leather. The leather features on the doors, the dashboard, the new sport seats, the grips on the headliner and the sun visor. Alacantra even appears on the exterior covering the rear view mirror and the third brake light.
According to Vilner, the direction in which to take the floor, “was an eccentric decision” with wooden floor panels fitted to create a unique feature.
The Vilner Sound System ensures it entertains passengers – a multimedia system with the power of 600w and the installation of 15-inch LCD screens connected to the DVD-player. In order to ensure maximum sound without disturbing other drivers on the road, the car’s cab has been fully soundproofed.

Dodge Dart rally car previewed for Global RallyCross Championships
0-60mph in 1.9 seconds
Dodge and SRT Motorsports have confirmed they will be entering the Global RallyCross Championships using a modified version of the new Dodge Dart. A rendering of what the model is likely to look like has also been released adding substance to the anticipation ahead of the first race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 26th.
The 2013 Dodge Dart rally car is due to be piloted by Travis Pastrana who is four-time Rally America Champion. It will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that generates 600hp (447kW / 608 PS) and 745Nm (550 lb-ft) of torque and is mated with a Sedav 4-wheel drive gear box.
The body work will also receive a bunch of upgrades whilst the interior will be stripped of all unnecessary comfort features. It results in a kerb weight well below the 1,456kg (3,211lb) that its production version is rated at.
"The sport is extremely exciting and the on-track action can be brutal on the drivers and the cars," said Bailey. "The cars are jumping higher than ever and landing safely", commented Reid Bigland, President and CEO - Dodge Brand. "The Dart rally car is lightweight with a very powerful motor. The zero to 60 mile-per-hour times are incredible, as low as 1.9 seconds, so with Travis behind the wheel, we can't wait for the season opener."
